Thoughts on…Networking

I hate networking!

I have lost count of how many times I've heard fellow freelancers utter those words.

And if I'm completely honest, I used to say the same thing.

That was before I understood what "networking" really means.

When I look past the buzz word, what I understand is

✅ Meeting new people
✅ Helping each other out
✅ Learning about other people's passions
✅ Broadening my horizon
✅ Making friends
✅ Building a community

Now, you might be a hardcore misanthrope and all of those things sound like hell to you.

In that case, fair enough, you hate networking. 🤷‍♀️

But if you don't hate all of those things, then you also don't hate networking.

You might hate the pressure of having to talk about yourself.

In that case, here's my number 1 networking tip:
👉 Be more interested than interesting.

Ask others about them, their work, their passions, their opinions.
It takes the pressure off you and makes them feel appreciated.
And you might learn something in the process.
